Sigrid J. Adams, M.A., L.P.C., C.R.C., CPLP, is a Rehabilitation Consultant Manager at Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) where she managers the Staff Development and Training Unit. She received her B.A.in Communication from Michigan State University and subsequently worked for several years in merchandising and advertising before returning to MSU to pursue a M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling.
Sigrid has worked for nearly 20 years in both private and public vocational rehabilitation as a counselor, trainer and manager. She is an experienced public speaker and presenter and has designed and delivered over 100 presentations and training sessions on a host of vocational rehabilitation and non-vocational topics. These include leadership and organizational development, succession planning, operational and strategic planning, staff recruitment and retention, VR process, policy and regulations, burnout, stress management and individuals with personality disorders just to name a few.
Her experience working with individuals with mental illness and personality disorder dates back to her days as a graduate student at Michigan State University were she co-founded and facilitated a support group for students with mental illness whose functional limitations were negatively affecting their ability to complete their academic programs. She has collaborated with several disability groups to advocate for systems change for individuals with mental illness and developmental disabilities in an effort to enhance self-determination. In her years as a Rehabilitation Counselor with MRS, she has worked extensively with individuals with severe and chronic mental illness to increase employment opportunities in addition to advocating for more mental health services, educating employers about various job accommodations, and addressing stereotypes prevailing in many workplaces regarding individuals with mental illness. Her passion for educating others on disability-related issues has led her on a professional journey of research and training in which she has explored the concomitant diagnoses of substance abuse and personality disorders. She is a Certified Professional in Learning and Performance (CPLP), a member of the Michigan Rehabilitation Association (MRA), and a member of the Association for Talent Development (ATD).
