Making an Accessible & Disability-Friendly Business for All - Inclusive Business Strategies Course

Course Purpose, Intended Audience(s), and Design:

This course is focused on making your business accessible and inclusive to people of all abilities. It covers specific strategies and practical steps to increase business profitability while enhancing customer engagement and accessibility of services and facilities, helping the business achieve the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) goals.

The presenter introduces the Center for Continuing Education and Rehabilitation (CCER) and its programs, covering four sections about general accessibility. By the end of this course, you will learn core knowledge about the basics of accessibility and understand how to achieve the minimum requirements of the ADA.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completing this course, you will:

  • Explore and analyze the buying power of people with disabilities.
  • Identify basic requirements of physical accessibility of a facility.
  • Define and summarize the basics of website accessibility.
  • Discuss best practices, resources, and important takeaways about accessibility.

Course Structure:

The course is presented in three parts:

  1. Video Presentation:
    • Open-captioned video with a slide show.
    • The video presentation is divided into three parts.
    • Copies of the slides are available in PDF and RTF Word documents for review and download.
  2. Quiz:
    • A 7-question quiz to test your understanding.
  3. Course Evaluation:
    • A 7-question evaluation to provide feedback.

Presenter:

Eva L. de Leon, MA, CRC, ADAC

Eva is the CCER Assistant Director of Programs and the Director of the ADII project at the University of Washington. She coordinates people and resources to provide technical assistance and content expertise on various national and regional projects. Eva manages projects related to accessibility assessment and presents on all titles of the ADA and related federal and state requirements for businesses, state and local governments, and stakeholders. Eva served as the Assistant Director of the Northwest ADA Center from 2016 to 2018 and has over 21 years of extensive experience in advocacy, continuing education, technical assistance, rehabilitation counseling, disability services, and employment programs.

Eva received her undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and her Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Western Washington University (WWU). She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and certified ADA Coordinator (ADAC).

What to Expect from the Recorded Video Presentation:

  • The presenter will identify herself and provide important visual descriptions of the slides and slide numbers for accessibility.
  • A 5-minute introduction of CCER and its programs, including contact information.
  • Coverage of the four areas of the learning objectives, with interactive true or false questions to check understanding.
  • A short quiz and an evaluation at the end of the course to receive a CEU credit (i.e., CRC, Certificate of Completion).
